On Sunday, volunteer students from the International University for the Humanities and Development organized a voluntary campaign for "Island of Hope" - the first officially registered in Turkmenistan Center for Assistance to Homeless Animals, for extension of which a site was allocated in the village of Gavers near Ashgabat. Now there are about 160 dogs here - these are the new pets of the Center. A group of 30 volunteers was quite usefull - to equip the new enclosures and adjacent territory, the Center needs hands. The guys helped to put things in order on the site, cleared the area for additional winter cages. Volunteers reacted with great devotion to assignments "on the au pair", and were happy to support people who are engaged in such an uneasy business - they help animals that need human care.Arslan KEMALOV
The campaign itself was organized responsibly: the volunteers informed the students about the upcoming action, inviting those wishing to participate in it with the help of posters and leaflets. And the administration of the university provided volunteers with transport delivery to their destination.
It is worth noting that today's trip is only the first stage of the action, as in the near future volunteers organize new trips to "Island of Hope". The next Sunday they will return there again, and the Orient reporter will go with them to tell more about how the Center is being formed, and the volunteers who help him.
Volunteer students who took part in servicing the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games have gained valuable experience, knowledge and skills, and want to direct it to community work, especially in those areas where voluntary support and assistance is most needed. Therefore, the guys are already planning other campaigns in the aspect of social activity. Hence, the volunteer movement in Turkmenistan is gaining momentum.
