Turkmenistan and Türkiye will open joint diploma programs in the field of higher education


The Council of Higher Education of Turkey announced that as part of a memorandum of understanding signed with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, joint diploma programs will be opened and both countries will admit students to undergraduate and graduate programs.
The memorandum was signed among other documents during the visit of Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Turkey on October 26. With their signatures, Chairman of the Council of Higher Education Erol Ozvar and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nurmuhammet Amannepesov cemented their intention to strengthen cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research.
According to the memorandum of understanding, exchanges in academic and scientific fields will be carried out between higher education institutions of the two countries, and cooperation in the field of digital education and research and development will be possible between universities of the two countries.
Mobility in education and internships, as well as participation in short-term research programs of higher education institutions, students, teachers and researchers in certain programs will be supported. In addition, the exchange of educational materials, joint master classes, conferences, seminars and mutual visits to universities will be planned.

The parties will be able to send and accept undergraduate and graduate students to each other’s higher education institutions within the framework of their legislation. The necessary work will be carried out to recognize degrees and diplomas.
A Joint Standing Committee on Higher Education will be established to jointly develop plans for collaboration in the areas identified in the memorandum of understanding and to implement and evaluate research aimed at achieving these goals.
Turkmen students studying associate degree programs in Turkey most prefer the faculties of first aid and emergency care, banking and insurance, accounting and exhibition practice. Among undergraduate programs, the top three are history, nursing and school teaching, the Council notes.
According to the Council, history is the most preferred faculty for master's degrees, international relations and history stand out in doctoral studies. The Turkish Higher Education Council expects that the number of preferred departments will be increased after the signing of the memorandum of understanding.
