The Government of Turkmenistan and UNDP held a workshop in preparation for the dialogue on human rights with the UN Council

In preparation for the interactive dialogue on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) with the UN Human Rights Council, UNDP (United Nations Development Program) and the Government of Turkmenistan held a seminar. The event took place at the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan.
The seminar was organized in the format of a working meeting and brought together participants, including UNDP international expert Thomas Baranovas, representatives of the state delegation, including representatives of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, various ministries and government departments, as well as the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan’s dialogue with the UN Human Rights Council on the 4th cycle of the UPR is scheduled for November 6, 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is an important process that reviews the human rights situation in all 193 UN member states. This process aims to improve respect for human rights and combat rights violations, regardless of where they occur.
Turkmenistan actively participates in dialogues on the Universal Periodic Review and receives recommendations on improving its national human rights system. In 2018, Turkmenistan submitted a report on the third cycle of the UPR and accepted 172 recommendations out of 193.
Turkmenistan's draft national report on the UPR is an important step in ensuring compliance with the country's international human rights obligations. It also contributes to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Cooperation between UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan confirms the country's commitment to improving respect for human rights and active interaction with the international community. The Universal Periodic Review Dialogue provides an opportunity to share experiences and best practices in the field of human rights, promoting progress and development in this important area.
