In Luxembourg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held bilateral talks with his Romanian counterpart Luminica Odobescu. The meeting of the foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Romania was held on October 23 on the sidelines of the 19th ministerial meeting "Central Asia - European Union".

Calling Turkmenistan one of Romania's priority partners in the region, Okobescu stressed the role of Central Asia as a key partner of her country, which acts as a link and strengthens cooperation between the CA region and the EU.

At the meeting, the parties once again confirmed their interest in continuing cooperation in the field of digitalization. Discussing the partnership between the two countries in the trade and economic direction, the interlocutors focused on the potential of joint projects, including in the fields of transport and energy. In this context, the Turkmen-Romanian cooperation within the framework of the Working Group on Energy was highly appreciated. They also stressed the importance of the Caspian Sea-Black Sea transport corridor for the states.

During the talks, the Foreign Ministers also discussed issues of humanitarian cooperation, focusing on cooperation in the field of education and the expansion of exchange programs. It was noted that about 300 Turkmen students are currently studying in Romania. Partnership in this direction is developing within the framework of the Cooperation Program, which was signed this year between the Ministries of Education of the two countries.

The Turkmen side also confirmed the importance of holding regular short-term diplomatic trainings for young diplomats at the Romanian Nicolae Titulescu University.

Concluding the meeting, the Ministers signed an Action Plan for 2024-2025 between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Romania. This document is an expression of common aspirations to further strengthen cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries, the website of the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.
