29 projects implemented in Turkmenistan are marked on the map of best practices on the use of water, land and energy resources and ecology in Central Asia. The interactive map was compiled on the basis of the outcomes of the European Union project "Promoting dialogue to prevent disagreement on issues related to environmental protection and management of water NEXUS in Central Asia" - CAWECOOP, implemented by the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) in 2015-2017. By "best practice" is meant the successful application in practice of one or another instrument, approach, technology, method or organization of the process of rationalizing water, land and energy resources and solving environmental problems. They are called “best” because of the successful adaptation to local conditions in Central Asian region. Moreover, "best practice" brings concrete results and is widely interwoven in the resource management. The map is available online at riverbp.net/innovation/map-best-practices In Turkmenistan, the projects such as the modernization of the Abadan Power Plant, the collection of surface runoff and water-saving for the development of market gardening and fruit gardening in order to prevent pasture degradation, innovative technology of groove irrigation of cotton for irrigation efficiency, restoration of juniper forests in the Central Kopetdag, and a lot of others are proved to be “best practices”. Earlier this month Almaty hosted the final conference on the implementation of the CAWECOOP project. The forum fixed the main outcomes and further steps to ensure their sustainability. It is worth to note that CAWECOOP supported the holding of the Central Asian International Environmental Forum in Ashgabat in June this year. The initiative has been transformed into a solid platform for political dialogue on environmental issues, and next year the forum will be held in Tashkent.
