The President of Azerbaijan will take part in the meeting of the heads of Central Asian states for the first time
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has arrived in Tajikistan to participate in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian states as an honorary guest. The head of state, who is not a member of the region, will participate in this summit for the first time.
It is expected that during the visit, Aliyev will hold a bilateral meeting with the head of Tajikistan and deliver a speech at the meeting of the heads of Central Asian states, the Tajik Foreign Ministry reports.
Heads of states outside Central Asia have not been invited to the regional summit held since 2018. In previous years, a face-to-face consultation meeting was not held only in 2020. In 2021, the summit was hosted by Turkmenistan — the leaders of the Central Asian countries gathered in the NTZ "Avaza".
