Tajikistan will allocate $227 million for the construction and reconstruction of a road in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in the east of the republic. This road will become part of the transport corridor from China to Europe.

"The road section has a length of 109 km and after complete reconstruction will be reduced by 17 km. As a result, there will be 92 km of modern road that meets all international standards. The project amount is 2.5 billion somoni," President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said during a trip to the region.

"The construction of this road is of great importance not only for the population of the region, but also in the near future it will be used as a transit economic corridor China - Tajikistan - northern Afghanistan and China - Tajikistan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Turkey – Europe," the head of state was quoted by his press service.

Rahmon also noted that for the operation of transport corridors, the government of the republic decided to build several more roads and reconstruct a checkpoint on the border with China.

Cooperation in the field of transport was one of the main topics of the Summit of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, held on August 4 in Ashgabat. The intention to use the great potential of the three countries in the field of transport, logistics and transit is also enshrined in the Joint Statement of the heads of State.

"In order to expand cooperation in the field of transport and use the transit potential of the three countries, the parties stressed the importance of activating multimodal transport along the Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan transport route, providing access to the seaports of the three countries, including the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf," the document says.
