Turkmenistan celebrates 30th anniversary of UNESCO membership: the President sent a message to Audrey Azoulay
On August 17, Turkmenistan celebrates the 30th anniversary of membership in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - UNESCO. On the occasion of a significant date, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a message to UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, in which he noted that the two sides had done a lot of joint work, gained positive experience in the cultural and humanitarian sphere and the protection of historical heritage.
“Turkmenistan will continue active cooperation with UNESCO,” the head of Turkmenistan said, wishing the head and all employees of the secretariat of this organization success in their activities.
National leader, chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated the president of the country on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's membership in UNESCO, noting the coincidence of the initiatives put forward in the cultural and humanitarian sphere with the goals and objectives of this specialized UN structure.
"The repeated election of Turkmenistan to the Executive Board of this organization, the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and UNESCO for 2021-2023 is a high assessment of our country's activities to protect the cultural and natural heritage," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.
Among the results of the large-scale work of Turkmenistan to preserve historical and cultural values for future generations is the inclusion of the monuments of Nisa, Ancient Merv, Kunyaurgench into the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List, and the introduction of the “Gerogly” destan, the Novruz holiday, the singing and dance ceremony of "Kushtdepdi", Turkmen national carpet weaving, the craft of making and palying the dutar and the art of bakhshi, traditional hand embroidery of Turkmens into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The success of the country’s cultural diplomacy also includes the announcement of 2024 as the Year of the great poet and thinker of the Turkic world Makhtumkuli Fragi, the inclusion of the collection of Magtymguly’s manuscripts in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, as well as support for the proposal to include the 300th anniversary of Fragi in the UNESCO List of Memorable Dates.
Earlier it was reported that Ashgabat will host an international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO in 2024.
