Merv's victory over Kyrgyz Alai in the preliminary round of the AFC Cup
Turkmen "Merv" beat the Kyrgyz "Alay" in the preliminary round of the second most important club tournament in Asia - the AFC Cup-2023/24.
The meeting, held in Mary, with a 10,000th audience, ended with a score of 1:0 in favor of the hosts. The only goal among the winners was scored by Musa Khudainazarov at the 13th minute of the first half.
The active game that the guests demonstrated in the second half did not give them the opportunity to hit the gates of "Merv", thanks to the well-coordinated actions of the defense players of the Mary team.
At the end of the meeting, the Alai footballers managed to inflict a number of shots on the goal of the Mary club, but it was not possible to extract a scoring result from this. Guests from Kyrgyzstan were content with blows to the post and crossbar.
The compensated five minutes, which the match referee added to the regular time, became the last hope for "Alai" and an attempt for "Merv" to prove that the team deserves participation in the AFC Cup. The final score is 1:0, and the club from Turkmenistan goes to the next stage of the preliminary round of the AFC Cup.
