The FESCO transport group, one of the largest Russian shipping companies, plans to build its own container terminal in the Caspian Sea. It will serve the cargo flow along the Trans-Caspian branch of the international North-South transport corridor.

The construction of the terminal, in particular, was discussed during the meeting of Chairman of the Board of Directors of FESCO Andrey Severilov with Governor of the Astrakhan Region Igor Babushkin.

“At the meeting, the parties considered various aspects and prospects for creating a modern container terminal in the Astrakhan region, which would serve the growing cargo flow of the North-South international transport corridor,” the company noted.

It is expected that the launch of the complex will allow FESCO to scale up existing routes on the Trans-Caspian branch and provide new logistics services within the “North-South” corridor.

The North-South transport corridor has three branches: the eastern and western ones go around the Caspian Sea, and the Trans-Caspian one passes through its water area.

In the port special economic zone of the Astrakhan region, Turkmenistan also intends to create its own logistics center, which will become an important incentive for the development of cargo transportation along the international transport corridor "North-South" with the connection of other Central Asian countries that do not have direct access to the Caspian Sea.
