Google will start deleting old accounts that have not been used for more than 2 years. The company announced this in an email newsletter for users, justifying its decision with the desire to ensure confidentiality and prevent possible unauthorized access to "forgotten" accounts.
The removal of inactive accounts will begin on December 1, 2023.
Accounts will be considered active if users use them:
— read or sent emails,
— used the Google Drive cloud service,
— watched videos on YouTube,
— provided other users with access to photos,
— downloaded applications,
— used Google Search,
— logged in with a Google account to third-party applications and services.
Before deleting the account, Google will send several warning emails to the user's Gmail, as well as the additional email specified during registration.
Google was warned that after deleting an account, it would not be possible to create a new one with the same address. This will prevent attackers from pretending to be another user whose account was previously deleted due to inaction.
