Stars are like at the palm: world's first telescope for a smartphone has been created
Hestia — this is the name of the world's first device that turns a smartphone into a telescope. The new device will allow you to plunge into the world of astronomy – space will become much closer with it, and it will be much easier to study the stars.
The American startup Vaonis presented an innovative development. The invention is simple - a special lens system with a smartphone stand is installed on a tripod. It is enough for the user to turn on the camera and put the phone on top of Hestia and you can take pictures of celestial bodies. Distant objects will not be removed. Hestia only has a 25x zoom. However, this is enough to take pictures of the Moon, neighboring planets, the Sun and even the spots of our star, the inventors tell on the Vaonis website.
To use the new gadget, you must also download and launch the application of the same name, in which an interactive map of space will be available. The app will tell you which way to turn Hestia to capture the star from the best angle.
Hestia's dimensions are the size of a book and weighs only 500 grams. You can shoot with a viewing angle of 1.8 degrees. The telescope is compatible with Android 11 and iOS 16. For example, iPhone 8 users can only shoot the Moon and the Sun, but iPhone 13 and 14 owners can capture distant stellar objects.
The cost of the new telescopes is $149, and they will go on sale in December this year.
