Training for private recruitment agencies on the principles of fair recruitment was held in Ashgabat

Ashgabat hosted the first training for private recruitment agencies of Turkmenistan on the application of fair recruitment principles to prevent human trafficking. The event was organized on Wednesday by the USAID-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia (SMICA) Program in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
The training was part of a collaborative initiative to address global challenges in establishing fair recruitment processes. In particular, the project aims to increase stakeholder knowledge of national and international recruitment practices, conduct research on labor recruitment in migration corridors and labour-intensive sectors, with a focus on appropriate policies, laws and enforcement mechanisms that have had an impact on reducing cases of human trafficking.

Also, one of the objectives of the training was to present the Guidelines on fair recruitment for private recruitment agencies of Turkmenistan, which was developed on the basis of the principles and conventions of the International Labor Organization on fair recruitment.
During the training, the experts introduced the trainees to the international norms and practices of fair and ethical recruitment, as well as shared best practices in the field of international recruiting and data management.
Participants learned about the links between recruitment abuse and human trafficking, the relevant international legal framework, international standards on recruitment agencies and fees, received information about the UNODC Report on the role of recruitment fees, abuse and fraudulent activities of recruitment agencies in human trafficking.

Experts from Kyrgyzstan shared their experience on the benefits of establishing the Association of Private Employment Agencies (APEA).
The Turkmen specialists presented a manual on conducting a professional and efficient recruitment process with practical recommendations and methods for each stage of recruitment, from determining the needs and expectations of the organization, to the announcement of vacancies, selection and interview with candidates, making a final decision and a job offer.
The training focused on the importance of fair recruitment practices that respect the rights and dignity of all candidates, regardless of their gender, age, race, religion, disability, or any other personal characteristics.
