"All rights for every child": children became participants of information campaigns in summer camps of Turkmenistan

A series of interactive classes and games that increase children's awareness of human rights, children's rights and the rights of persons with disabilities were held in summer children's camps in Turkmenistan. The participants of the sessions were more than 250 children vacationing in five wellness centers in Geokdere.
The traditional educational campaign has been held for the third year in a row and is a joint initiative of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, UNICEF and the Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia (OHCHR).

This year, OHCHR ROCA supports children's camps within the framework of the campaign "Human Rights 75", dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The project aims to expand knowledge about the universality and indivisibility of human rights, to empower people, especially among young people. Kids got new knowledge and learned how to defend their rights.

The sessions in a playful way allowed the children to work out the skills to freely express their thoughts and share their dreams and future aspirations. Information classes were mainly aimed at familiarizing children with the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, as well as their basic principles. The participants considered such topics as non- discrimination, ensuring the best interests of the child, health, development, participation and inclusion, as well as national legislation in the field of the rights of the child and persons with disabilities.

"I am very glad that I became a participant of the event - I learned a lot about human rights, the rights of the child, for example, that every child has the right to study, relax, live in a safe environment and much more. It was very interesting to learn about the rights of children with disabilities and that all children are equal," shared Medine, a 10-year- old girl who attended the session at the Nesil summer camp.
