In many foreign universities there are student newspapers that perform important functions. They unite students and help them to explore their creativity, inform about current and forthcoming events. In addition, the successes in studies are reflected on the pages of newspapers, with the student's own photo and praise from comrades motivate young people to further self-development. Such experience is especially valuable for students of journalistics faculties, who will start working in real editions in a few years and their skills and professionalism will define how the face of national journalism will look. Students of the Faculty of Journalism of the International University for the Humanities and Development apply the received knowledge in practice and are actively working on a new project - a university newspaper. The main distinguishing feature of this publication is that it is issued exclusively in English. The first number of the newspaper was prepared by the students in September 2016. Since then, a newspaper called “IUHD NEWS” (IUHD News - International University for the Humanities and Development) is published once a month.Arslan KEMALOV
The central theme of the publication is student life, news about events at the university, results and photo reviews of competitions, interviews with teachers and students, interesting polls, reviews of significant events in the country, informative articles about movies, books, music, as well as word search puzzles and crossword puzzles.
The entire process of creating a newspaper, from the definition of the concept of the issue, the search for themes and information to page planning, making-up and printing is done by the students themselves: an editorial team is formed, which includes reporters, editors, proofreaders, designers and photographers.
It is noteworthy that the materials in the newspaper are written not only by students of the Faculty of Journalism, but also by students of other specialties.
Gradually the newspaper gained popularity outside of the university. “IUHD NEWS” is represented at various exhibitions, forums and conferences, on the air of television channels.
The appearance of the university newspaper positively influenced the youth of the university: the interest in media, social and political journalism and journalism in general has been growing among many students. And future journalists have become more creative and independent in learning the basics of specialty, solving creative tasks. They are increasingly coming out with their publications into broader information spaces, trying their hand at being freelance writers of national media resources. Teachers and students of other higher educational institutions also plan to adopt this experience, and to publish similar publications in their universities.
