Urban development and urbanization trends became the topic of the international forum in the city of Arkadag
An international conference dedicated to the implementation of state policy in the field of urban planning and architecture, industrial high-tech and urbanization was held in the city of Arkadag on Tuesday. The forum gathered heads of branches of the construction and industrial complex, heads and representatives of large foreign companies involved in this sector of the Turkmen economy.
Opening the conference and welcoming foreign delegates to the new city of Turkmenistan, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Baymyrat Annamammedov described the main priorities of the country's urban development policy, vividly embodied in the megaproject for the creation of the city of Arkadag, the foundation of which was laid on April 10, 2019.
And now, just a few years later, its opening is widely celebrated in the foothills of Kopetdag. The implementation of such a colossal amount of work in such a short time and on its own in itself testifies to the economic potential of the state.
The city of Arkadag has received the status of state significance. As the Deputy Prime Minister explained, cities of state significance are not subjects of a structural unit of the country as a separate administrative-territorial structure, they are directly considered a subject of the state. Cities of this category are of particular importance in the socio-economic development of the country and settlements, as they are system-forming centers of innovation. This is embodied in the "smart" city of Arkadag, which combines innovative world practice, national style in architecture and advanced technological support.
As the Minister of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan Guvanch Orunov told at the conference, if 336 buildings and structures were built on 715 hectares of land in the commissioned 1st stage of the new city, then at the second stage it is planned to build 139 buildings and structures on 287 hectares, including 110 residential houses. The Minister particularly noted that according to the "smart city" concept, a single ecosystem was created based on the integration of information and communication networks aimed at effective management of urban structure and services, improving the standard of living of the population, ensuring safety and compliance with environmental requirements.
So, for the purpose of rational water use, rainwater collection systems are installed on all streets of the new city, drainage systems are provided to reduce the groundwater level, and the collected water is concentrated on water treatment facilities and, after being prepared for reuse, is sent for watering urban gardens, flower beds and green spaces. To provide Arkadag residents with clean drinking water, it is planned to build a state-of-the-art water treatment plant with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters per day.
The needs of people with disabilities are also taken into account in the arrangement of the new city, including tactile surface signs with a total length of 130 km. To maintain an active lifestyle of the townspeople, running and cycling paths with a total length of 14 km are laid.
The heads of international companies who spoke at the event, first of all, congratulated the government and the people of Turkmenistan on such a remarkable event of historical significance as the opening of the city of Ashgabat, shared their impressions of it and presented a vision for the development of cooperation in the development of "smart" cities.
Adrian Hugh, Project Director of BUIG Turkmen, stressed that the city of Arkadag is a clear example of the confident pace of Turkmenistan, the dynamism of its economy and the focus on all new heights of development for the benefit of the Turkmen people. He noted that the developed infrastructure, innovative solutions, green technologies, advanced information and communication systems have formed a unique technical parameters and favorable ecological environment of the city.
On behalf of BUIG, he assured that the company, which has been cooperating with Turkmenistan for more than 29 years, will continue to make every effort to ensure compliance with deadlines and high quality of services provided, support the highest level of safety during work, so that their result meets all the expectations and requirements of Turkmen customers.
And the trade manager of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd, Kim Munsu, read out a congratulatory greeting from the chairman of the Board of the company, Chong Won-ju, who stressed that the opening ceremony of the new city of Arkadag once again symbolizes the leading role of Turkmenistan in the Central Asian region.
He also noted that during a personal visit to the new city in May of this year, he felt the greatness and high value of this carefully planned project.
Currently, Daewoo Engineering & Construction is preparing two projects with the state concern "Turkmenhimiya" – a plant for the production of ammonia-carbamide fertilizer and a plant for the production of superphosphate. The company plans to build in Turkmenistan the first in Central Asia plant of environmentally friendly fertilizers using blue ammonia technology, which is consonant with the idea of creating an environmentally friendly city of Arkadag. "Daewoo Engineering & Construction promises to always be a partner that shares the values and priorities of Turkmenistan," assured Chong Won-ju. He concluded his message with the words: "Ashgabat is an oasis on the edge of the desert, known as the "city of love". I have no doubt that the new city of Arkadag will play an equally significant role in the prosperity of Turkmenistan".
Representatives of Hyundai Engineering, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Sumitomo, Çalik Enerji, Rönesans Inşaat, Vozrozhdenie, Altcom Road Construction, INAS+, etc. also spoke at the forum.
Within the framework of the conference, meetings will be held in the afternoon between delegates from foreign companies with the leadership of ministries and departmental departments of the construction and industrial complex of Turkmenistan.
