UAE approves first license for self-driving cars

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, as well as the ruler of Dubai, approved the first license for the use of unmanned vehicles on the roads of the UAE.

The license was granted to WeRide. Now the company can test self-driving cars on the country's roads.

In his microblog on Twitter, Sheikh Mohammed also said that the national policy on electric vehicles was approved at the last Council of Ministers. It is aimed at creating a national network of chargers for electric vehicles, regulating the electric vehicle market, ensuring emissions reduction, as well as preserving the quality of roads in the UAE.

WeRide is actively engaged in research and operations in the field of autonomous driving in more than 26 cities around the world, including Abu Dhabi. Its headquarters are located in Guangzhou, China.
