Turkmenistan's Ambassador to France Maksat Charyev took part in the fifth extraordinary session of the UNESCO General Conference, which was initiated by Japan with the support of 150 states, including the official Ashgabat, the Turkmen diplomatic mission in Paris reports.

The main topic of the session is the discussion of issues related to the return of the United States as a member state of the organization. It is worth noting that the American side announced its desire to return on June 12 this year in a letter submitted to the Director General of UNESCO. Financing issues were also raised during the discussions.

As a result of the conference, 132 participating states voted to support the return of the United States to UNESCO, which, according to media reports, should take place by July 31.
