From May to June, for government officials working with children in the Ahal, Balkan and Mary regions, the office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan and the UNICEF office in the country conducted a series of seminars on raising awareness on the protection and promotion of the rights of the child.

The workshops are organized as part of the Joint Work Plan for 2023 and are aimed at expanding the national capacity for independent monitoring to ensure the protection of the rights of the most vulnerable segments of the population, including children and people with disabilities.

The trainings were held in the city of Anau, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone and in the city of Mary. They were attended by deputies of the Mejlis, representatives of regional administrations, the prosecutor's office, the court, the police, the registry office, the Bar Association, the Youth Organization, the Women's Union, schools, clinics and the media.

During the sessions, civil servants deepened their knowledge of international and national legislation on the rights of the child, including the UN conventions on the rights of the child and the rights of people with disabilities, ways to protect and ensure rights taking into account the interests of the child, as well as the role of UNICEF and the Office of the Ombudsman in this area.

― We express our gratitude to the Office of the Ombudsman for initiating regional seminars with professionals working with children, and we hope that we can all learn from each other in order to make the life of every child better, as well as contribute to the implementation of national priorities and the fulfillment of the country's international obligations, - Mohammad Fayazi, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan said.
