The Rabat Declaration on Strengthening the Health of Refugees and Migrants was adopted
At the third Global Consultation on the Health of Migrants and Refugees in Rabat, Morocco, representatives of the UN member States adopted the Rabat Declaration on Strengthening the Health of Refugees and Migrants. This is reported on the website of the World Health Organization.
By adopting the document, the countries pledged to accelerate the implementation of measures to strengthen the health of refugees, migrants and their host communities; to eliminate factors that negatively affect their health; to make efforts to include health and social protection issues in the national policy on refugees and migrants.
In order to achieve these goals, the countries spoke out for the need to ensure the recognition of professional qualifications from among health workers from among refugees and migrants.
Countries also pledged to take into account the interests of refugees and migrants and their host communities in the implementation of policies for the prevention of pandemics and other emergencies in the field of health, preparedness, response and recovery.
The third Global Consultation on the health of Migrants and refugees was organized in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as well as the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). It was attended by representatives of the Governments of 50 Member States of the United Nations and its observers, as well as representatives of humanitarian organizations, civil society, refugee and migrant communities and UN agencies.
