Uzbekistan and Iran agreed to develop a multimodal corridor through Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan and Iran have agreed to develop a multimodal corridor through Turkmenistan and reduce fees for Uzbek carriers. The agreements were reached within the framework of negotiations between Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov and Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Mehrdod Bazrposh.
At the meeting, the parties discussed aspects related to the strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of transport, the development of transport corridors, and the effective use of existing opportunities in this direction. Podrobno.uz. reports.
The parties reached an agreement on the development of a trilateral transport multimodal corridor "Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran" and the agreement in the near future to reduce on a parity basis the fees levied by Iran from Uzbek national carriers in the process of transporting goods by road, as well as comparing tax fees for fuel with taxes from other countries.
The corridor "Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran" is one of the key routes for Uzbekistan to enter the seaports of the Indian Ocean. The port of Chobahar has a serious potential and the Iranian leadership relies on it, as it is a key point for trans- Eurasian transit flows along the North-South corridor.
