Turkmen Bakhshi will perform at the International Ethnofestival in Almaty
On November 24, the International Ethnofestival of Zhyrshy (Bakhshi) "Eli Dala Eli" will take place in Almaty, where our masters of traditional song art Kerven Evbasarov and Meret Tachev will take part.
This year the festival will bring together hundreds of eminent figures and cultural researchers from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Karakalpakstan, Azerbaijan and other countries under one roof.
Traditionally, the event will acquaint spectators with the epic art of Turkic-speaking peoples, strengthen cultural dialogue between fraternal countries.
The Turkmen art of bakhshi goes back to antiquity. Bakhshi musicians have always enjoyed a special treatment of respect from Turkmen. Wandering from village to village, they were everywhere accepted as long-awaited guests. And the young and the elderly listened with enthusiasm to their songs filled with meaning to the heartfelt melodies of Dutar.
Today in Turkmenistan this ancient genre is given great attention. In the Turkmen National Conservatory and various musical schools of the country there are departments of bakhshi, where the young generation is mastering this ancient but still relevant art.
