The Turkmen athlete became the silver medalist of the Havana Grand Prix in weightlifting


Turkmen weightlifter Gaygysyz Torayev won a silver medal at the Havana Weightlifting Grand Prix held in the capital of Cuba.
The nineteen-year-old athlete became the vice-champion of the tournament in the weight category up to 81 kg. According to the results of two disciplines, Torayev showed a result of 319 kg (144+175), thereby losing the first place to Abdullah Rahmat Erwin from Indonesia, who took a total weight of 358 kg (156+202). The top three were closed by the representative of Canada Samuel Guertin - 313 kg (140 + 173).
The Turkmen national team is represented at this tournament by three athletes, including the silver medalist of the 2020 Olympics in the weight category up to 59 kg Polina Guryeva. The winner of the first Olympic award in the history of the country will have to go to the Havana platform on June 15.
The Grand Prix of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) is one of the stages of Olympic qualification, which started on June 8. This competition brought together over four hundred weightlifters from more than 70 countries to compete for places in the ranking that determines the participants of the 2024 Olympics. The tournament will end on June 18.
