The European Commission and the World Health Organization have announced the launch of the largest initiative in the field of digital health, according to the WHO website.

The partnership includes the creation of a new global system that aims to mobilize the population and help protect citizens around the world from existing and future health threats.

The system will be based on the mechanism of digital vaccination certificates against COVID-19 developed by the EU. It will be the first element of the WHO Global Network of Digital Medical Certification and involves the release of a wide range of digital products in order to strengthen global sanitary and epidemiological safety.

"New digital health products are being created to ensure faster and more efficient delivery of quality health services to people around the world," said WHO Director—General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus.

In turn, the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakide noted that this initiative is a clear example of how the coordinated actions of the EU and WHO contribute to ensuring health for all people both in the EU countries and around the world.

One of the main measures taken by the European Union to combat the COVID-19 pandemic was the introduction of digital vaccination certificates against COVID-19. Subsequently, non-EU countries also joined this system. Within the framework of cooperation with the EU, WHO will coordinate this process at the global level, allowing the countries of the world to use mutually compatible digital certificates.
