The Embassy of Turkwmenistan in Pakistan organized a major cycling event in Islamabad on Saturday to encourage people from all walks of life to pay more attention to cycling, promoting an active lifestyle and environmentally friendly approaches.

Representatives of the diplomatic community, corporate and media personnel took part in the festive event on the occasion of the World Bicycle Day. The event was supported by the local Serena Hotel and the Tabani group of companies, which provided bicycles, Islamabad Post writes.

The main guest was the Special Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Sirus Sajjad Qazi. Speaking at the event, he thanked the Turkmen Embassy for organizing the bike ride and highly appreciated the initiative of the Government of Turkmenistan to adopt a resolution of the UN General Assembly declaring June 3 the World Bicycle Day for promoting a healthy lifestyle, which will also contribute to reducing the carbon footprint and noise pollution. In his opinion, such events should be organized more often in order to promote cycling as an effective mode of transport.

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan and Doyen of the diplomatic corps Atajan Movlamov in his speech noted that Turkmenistan promotes a healthy lifestyle and environmentally friendly modes of transport, the promotion of which directly contributes to the achievement of many Sustainable Development Goals. It was emphasized that the bicycle is an instrument of environmentally sustainable development and carries a positive message that promotes sustainable consumption and production, as well as has a positive impact on the climate.

Turkmenistan is committed to strengthening international cooperation aimed at implementing the principles of development and peace. For its part, Turkmenistan was one of the first countries in the world to adopt the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the first in the region to nationalize the Sustainable Development Goals in 2016, the Ambassador noted.
