Ashgabat hosted a mass bike ride led by the President of Turkmenistan


President Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a mass bike ride held in Ashgabat on Saturday on the occasion of World Bicycle Day. By tradition, thousands of Turkmen citizens took part in cycling starts that day - festive events took place both in the capital and in the regions of the country.
Such events have become regular in Turkmenistan and are designed to draw public attention to the benefits and environmental friendliness of cycling.
The UN announced the establishment of World Bicycle Day in 2018 on the initiative of Turkmenistan to recognize the positive impact of cycling on society, including reducing carbon emissions, combating climate change and improving air quality.
In 2022, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on integrating mass cycling into public transport systems for sustainable development. The paper highlights that the bicycle is a tool for sustainable transport and sends a positive signal to promote sustainable consumption and production, as well as having a positive impact on the climate.
