Turkmenistan celebrates World No Tobacco Day

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, which is celebrated annually on May 31, the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan held a youth conference.
The event became a platform for discussing the consequences of tobacco use, measures to combat this threat. The participants also learned about how to protect young people and children from passive smoking.
World No Tobacco Day is an annual campaign that serves as an occasion to promote the reduction of tobacco use in any form. It was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987.
The theme of May 31, 2023 is "Growing food, not tobacco." This motto draws attention to the role played by the tobacco industry in the development of the global food crisis. The campaign is designed to convince governments of the need to abandon subsidizing tobacco production and direct the saved funds to assist agricultural enterprises in switching to more sustainable crops that strengthen food security and improve people's nutrition.
