Day of the Russian language will be celebrated in Ashgabat with festive events


A festive action dedicated to Day of the Russian Language and the birthday of the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin, will be held on June 4 in the capital's park "Ashgabat", better known among the townspeople as the "First Park".
In this favorite place of rest for Ashgabat residents and guests of the capital, thematic master classes will begin in the morning (10:00), they will show an interactive performance based on the fairy tale by A.S. Pushkin "Golden Fish", as well as interesting competitions and educational quizzes on the works of the Russian poet.
The organizers of the event - the Department of Education, Science and Culture of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan, invite everyone to take part in the celebration. The most active guests will receive prizes, according to a press release.
International Day of the Russian Language is celebrated annually by the UN on June 6 - the birthday of the great Russian poet, the founder of the modern Russian literary language Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin. Russian is one of the six official languages of the UN, along with English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese and French. And in terms of status in international organizations, Russian ranks fourth after English, French and Spanish and is official or working in 15 major international organizations - primarily the UN and its sectoral organizations (WHO, UNESCO, IAEA, FAO, UNIDO, etc.).
In terms of the number of speakers of it, Russian ranks eighth in the world (258 million people) after English, Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, Bengali and French. According to the Global Competitiveness Index (GC-Index) for 12 world languages, Russian is in fifth place (2.86).
