Helga Schmid: OSCE is interested in expanding dialogue with Turkmenistan
Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid on Thursday, discussing further development of cooperation with her.
The Head of the OSCE confirmed the organization's high interest in expanding the dialogue with Turkmenistan, which, as a neutral state, makes a significant contribution to ensuring peace, security and stability.
The national leader of the Turkmen people noted that he regards this visit of the OSCE head to Ashgabat as an important stage in relations between Turkmenistan and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
On the same day, the OSCE Secretary General visited the Mejlis and met with the Speaker of the Turkmen Parliament Dunyagozel Gulmanova.
The main topic of the meeting was the activation of inter-parliamentary dialogue as an important channel for promoting constructive interaction, strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between countries and peoples.
During the visit, Helga Schmid also held talks with Mammethan Chakiyev, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
The parties reviewed the state and prospects of cooperation in the transit and transport sphere, including opportunities in increasing cargo flows of the Turkmenbashi seaport, which has received certification of the European EcoPorts standard.
