The first meeting of the Interpol Geiger project working group for Central Asia was held in Tashkent with the participation of Turkmenistan, where representatives of the law enforcement services of the countries of the Central Asian region took part.

According to the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, the main purpose of this meeting is to assist states in building the capacity to detect radioactive and nuclear materials, respond to radiological incidents, and conduct investigative measures when they are detected.

The main focus of this meeting was on interdepartmental coordination and information exchange. The Interpol database of the Geiger project is a good source of police intelligence.

Founded in 2002, the project collects and analyzes information on illicit trafficking of nuclear and radioactive materials and other unauthorized activities with nuclear materials.
