Turkmen schoolchildren won four medals — one silver and three bronze — at the 57th International Mendeleev Olympiad in Chemistry, held in Astana (Kazakhstan), the newspaper "Turkmenistan" reports.

Turkmenistan was represented at a major international intellectual competition by four students of the capital's specialized secondary boarding school named after S. Turkmenbashi, each of whom was awarded an honorary medal.

So, Begzada Annayev was awarded the silver dignity. Yakup Annarazov, Yhlas Jumaev and Aygul Atajanova won bronze medals.

The intellectual review organized by Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russian Federation) brought together 113 young chemists from such countries as: Russia, Kazakhstan, Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Hungary, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Mongolia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Croatia and Brazil.

The Olympiad lasted six days and consisted of three rounds: two theoretical and one practical. The tasks of the first stage corresponded in complexity to the program of specialized chemical classes. In the second round, participants were offered higher-level tasks from five sections of chemistry: organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry, as well as from the science of life.

The practical round of the Olympiad lasting five hours was aimed at checking whether schoolchildren have the skills to work in a chemical laboratory: the ability to perform chemical analysis of substances and carry out synthesis according to the proposed methodology.
