Turkmenistan is ready to expand partnership in the field of green development


Turkmenistan is ready to expand international partnership in the field of green technologies and is taking practical steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, in particular methane. The country also intends to promote hydrogen energy and aims for active cooperation in this sector. These theses received detailed coverage during the round table held on Thursday, May 11, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and dedicated to the issues of green economy and digital transformation for sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by heads and employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, UN specialized agencies. They discussed the results of the participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan in the 70th session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the ministerial meeting of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia, held in Geneva in April, the website of the national diplomatic service reports.
In her speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Myakhri Byashimova, focused on the use of new environmentally friendly technologies in industry and the development of effective approaches to environmental issues as priority areas of state policy, national programs and international obligations of the country to implement the SDGs, in particular, the climate component.
The green transformation of the economy is marked in this context as a key aspect of overcoming modern challenges on the way to achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda, including the transition to sustainable energy and the introduction of low- carbon solutions, combating climate change and biodiversity loss.
As noted during the meeting, within the framework of participation in the EEC session, the delegation of Turkmenistan noted the country's large-scale and consistent activities in these areas, and also expressed Turkmenistan's desire to expand international cooperation on the green track.
During the speeches, it was noted that the city of Arkadag could become a successful example of digital transformation and the use of green technologies, where the concept of a "smart city" and an approach to ensure zero harm to the environment at all stages are being implemented - from the stage of production of building materials to the stage of operation of facilities.
“The participants of the round table expressed a common opinion that Turkmenistan is ready for the most active, constructive and active participation in multilateral cooperation on all topical issues on the global agenda, primarily in promoting effective digital and green solutions,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
