The President of Turkmenistan met with the Prime Minister of Tajikistan


President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda on Thursday during his visit to Dushanbe. The subject of negotiations was the Turkmen-Tajik agreements reached at the highest level the day before in a number of areas, among which transport cooperation was highlighted.
In this context, the Head of Turkmenistan noted the demand for the creation of new transport and transit corridors passing through the territories of the two states and connecting vast regions of Central and South Asia, the Near and Middle East.
In the development of the topic, the prospects for the formation of the transport route Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey were considered. The possibilities of establishing multimodal cargo transportation with China involving the port of Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea and access to the Persian Gulf were also discussed.
In addition, the issue of the organization of direct and transit air links between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan was understood.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Kohir Rasulzoda paid attention to other areas of cooperation, including in the textile industry. The President of Turkmenistan proposed to consider the possibility of implementing the first pilot project to create a textile factory in Tajikistan with the participation of Turkmen companies.
The Head of State also spoke in favor of the early opening of trading houses of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan – in Dushanbe and Ashgabat, respectively, in order to develop trade relations and increase trade turnover.
The President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of Tajikistan also agreed on the importance of cooperation in the agricultural sector. In addition, Turkmenistan is interested in the supply of Tajik aluminum.
A meeting of the co-chairs of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation in an expanded format will be held in the near future to implement the proposals announced and the documents signed following the summit talks.
