Serdar Berdimuhamedov: We stand for peace and security in Central Asia
For Turkmenistan, the Republic of Tajikistan is an important and reliable partner, with which relations are built for the long term. Both states have an understanding and conviction that multifaceted cooperation is for the benefit of our peoples, contributes to the stability and development of regional and international processes, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
Speaking to the media following the results of the Turkmen-Tajik talks in Dushanbe, the head of Turkmenistan noted the constructive and substantive nature of the negotiations, which took place in the spirit of trust and openness and confirmed the commitment of the two countries to close cooperation and its intensification, the directions of joint work were specified.
An important place was given to the issues of strengthening universal peace, stability and security. "Our countries are united in the belief that all international issues should be resolved only by peaceful, negotiated means and methods, in accordance with the norms of international law and the UN Charter," the President of Turkmenistan stressed.
Special attention was paid to the processes in Central Asia. "Here the positions of our countries are clear, unchangeable and principled. We stand for the creation of strong and effective mechanisms that would ensure peace and security in Central Asia, strengthen good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation between the states of the region, its effective integration into world economic relations," Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
He noted the importance of the new format of regional cooperation – the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States, which will be held for the fifth time in September this year in Dushanbe.
The parties also agreed to coordinate efforts on the global track - sustainable development and its components, including sustainable transport links and ecology.
Thus, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan have agreed to build up their capacities to form a strategic transport and transit hub on the East-West line, to work with potential partners on regional and global platforms, in specialized international organizations, financial institutions.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also highlighted the issues of trade and economic partnership raised during the negotiations. Our countries have all the opportunities to increase the volume of trade, enter new promising areas of cooperation, joint projects in industrial cooperation, in the service sector, in the agricultural sector, the President said.
In this aspect, great importance is attached to the establishment of direct contacts between the business communities of the two countries with the coordinating role of the joint Business Council.
In the cultural and humanitarian sphere, the parties agreed to promote events in both states with the participation of literary figures, cinematographers, musical groups, and the organization of sports competitions. Noting that it was proposed to organize cross-cultural Days in 2023-2024, the President of Turkmenistan stressed the great potential of the two countries for cooperation in scientific and educational spheres.
