Procession of the "Immortal Regiment" took place in the Turkmen capital

The procession of the "Immortal Regiment" was held on Tuesday, May 9, in Ashgabat at the Joint Turkmen-Russian School named after A. S. Pushkin. The patriotic action, which has already become traditional, was attended by about 1,200 people. Schoolchildren and teachers with portraits of their grandfathers, great- grandparents, grandmothers, great-grandmothers and other relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War, marched around the school building.

The action was initiated by the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat. At a meeting before the start of the event, an adviser to the Russian diplomatic mission congratulated those present on Victory Day. He expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for the fact that the country preserves the historical memory of the common feat of the ancestors who defeated fascism.

According to historians, more than 70 thousand fighters from Turkmenistan were awarded orders and medals, 104 of them were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and 15 people became full holders of the Order of Glory. The inhabitants of the country did not stand aside either - they handed over 170 million rubles in cash to the Defense Fund. The Turkmen women donated about 7 and a half tons of gold and silver jewelry, which accounted for 80% of the precious metals collected then throughout the Union. The jewelry of Turkmen women was "melted" into 5 tank columns and 7 squadrons of combat aircraft.
