A Turkmen-Tajik business forum and a joint export exhibition were held in Dushanbe
The Turkmen-Tajik Business Forum was held in Dushanbe on Monday, May 8, on the eve of the visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Tajikistan. A joint exhibition of export goods of manufacturers of the two countries was prepared for the opening of the forum in the building of the National Library of Tajikistan.
The event was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Batyr Atdayev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Usmonali Usmonzoda. They toured the exhibition together, getting acquainted with the capabilities of enterprises of various profiles.
The head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of this country Jamshed Jumakhonzoda familiarized the Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister with the Tajik exposition located on the ground floor of the building, and his colleague, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan Dovletgeldy Rejepov presented the products of our country to the Tajik Deputy Prime Minister on the second floor.
After that, a business forum was held in the conference hall of the National Library, at the beginning of which Batyr Atdayev and Usmonali Usmonzoda spoke.
As noted, by the end of 2022 and since the beginning of this year, there has been an increase in the volume of bilateral trade in certain groups of goods, such as products of the fuel and energy complex, agricultural and chemical. Nevertheless, the trade and economic potential of our countries is much broader and the implementation of the Roadmap for Increasing Trade Turnover for 2022-2023, signed at the level of the governments of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan in 2021, will help to use it more fully.
In particular, the Roadmap provides for the creation of joint industrial enterprises, including in the free economic zones of our countries, with the production of products for export to third countries; the creation of joint enterprises for the processing of cotton fiber to final products; increasing the supply of fruits and dried fruits from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan, including their further processing.
In order to enter into specific projects and contracts, it was proposed to organize trade and economic missions of Turkmen and Tajik enterprises on a regular basis, to hold cross-exhibitions and fairs.
For its part, Turkmenistan is ready to significantly expand cooperation in such areas as trade, fuel and energy, chemical industry, production of building materials, food, textile, industry, pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, transport and logistics sector and others.
Ecology and water management are among the priority areas of cooperation, primarily in the field of rational water use and the widespread introduction of water-saving technologies.
Of course, great prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan are opening up in the transport sector. The combined efforts of our countries will contribute to the creation of a powerful transport and logistics infrastructure that would ensure the unification of the transport systems of Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
In order to benefit from the geographical location of our countries, on the East–West and North–South routes, Turkmenistan is interested in working together on a multimodal transport corridor with access to the Caspian Sea. In particular, the country is ready to offer Tajik transport companies the use of the capacities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport on favorable terms.
Turkmenistan also has an extensive production network of the textile industry, which includes more than 80 enterprises, which may be of interest to Tajikistan in terms of cotton processing. Certain prospects were also identified for the creation of joint ventures in the confectionery industry, the crop industry.
At the business forum, the meeting considered the investment opportunities of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, new proposals for cooperation voiced by the heads of ministries and departments of the two countries.
The Tajik side is represented at the forum by more than 150 organizations and private enterprises. A delegation consisting of about 70 institutions, including about 50 member companies of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, arrived from Turkmenistan for the meeting in Dushanbe.
The continuation of the dialogue in the new format will be the 1st meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Business Council, which will be held in the afternoon. Bilateral negotiations between representatives of state structures and private companies of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan are also planned.
