Deputy Executive Secretary of the UNECE Dmitry Maryasin called on the Central Asian countries to accelerate their accession to the eTIR international system, which has already been implemented in many countries of the region, such as Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Pakistan.

"In order to maintain work among the Central Asian countries, I want to invite the states of the region that have not yet completed the implementation of the eTIR international system in their national customs structures to do so in 2023," Maryasin said, speaking at the ITTC—2023 international transport conference, which opened today in Ashgabat.

"If the interconnections within the eTIR system can be achieved during the current year, then you will be able to work with digital corridors in Central Asia in a safer environment," added Maryasin.

According to him, the UNECE has prepared a package of standards and supporting tools for digitizing multimodal data and document exchange on supply chains and digital trade corridors. Such an approach will ensure the interoperability of multimodal data exchange using semantic standards and the UN Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) transport reference model.

The method includes modernization of existing and development of new UN/CEFACT data exchange standards, digitalization of documents on all modes of transport and pilot implementation projects.

The eTIR international system (Data Exchange between Customs Authorities) is capable of ensuring the safe exchange of data between national Customs authorities on international transit transport of goods, vehicles and containers in accordance with the TIR Convention "International Road Transport" (international name TIR, Transports Internationaux Routiers). The system allows Customs authorities to manage data on guarantees issued by the guarantee chain to TIR Carnet holders admitted to use the system.

Turkmenistan has been a member of the Customs Convention on the International Carriage of Goods under Cover of a TIR Carnet dated November 14, 1975 since 1996.
