Orazov spoke about the internship in Spain and the upcoming football tournament in Uzbekistan
The head coach of the Turkmenistan national football team Mergen Orazov has completed an internship at the academy of the Spanish Villarreal. The 34-year-old specialist shared the results of a four-day business trip and upcoming plans with the ORIENT correspondent.
According to Orazov, the current internship has opened up an opportunity to acquire additional knowledge and has become an important step for conquering new frontiers.
"The visit, organized by the Football Federation of Turkmenistan, included an internship with the academy and the backup squad of Spanish Villarreal, watching the training sessions and games of the main team of the club," says Orazov. — "I also held meetings with a sports psychologist, a fitness trainer, an analyst and a specialist in introducing new technologies to the club. In a conversation with each of them, I managed to learn important elements for myself — those that I and the coaching staff will use in working with the national team."
The first championship of the Central Asian Football Association, which will be held from June 10 to 20, will be a serious challenge for the Turkmen coach and the entire national team. Turkmenistan's rivals, as ORIENT previously reported, will be Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and India.
"The championship is a good opportunity to prepare for the qualifying games of the 2026 World Cup. All the opponents are above us in the FIFA ranking. This will allow you to establish a game with strong teams, which is very important for a successful performance in the selection," the mentor shares. — "We will monitor and analyze the state of candidates for the national team in the current championship of Turkmenistan. We plan to hold training camps in early June."
Recall that in January 2023 it became known about the appointment of Mergen Orazov as the head coach of the national team of Turkmenistan. He replaced Yazguly Hojageldiyev, who failed to lead the Turkmen football players to the final part of the Asian Cup-2023.
Last year, under the leadership of Orazov, "Ahal" won three national trophies — became the champion of Turkmenistan for the first time, won the Cup of the country and the Cup of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan, and the mentor himself was recognized as the best coach of Turkmenistan in 2022.
