Turkmen gas supplies remain on agenda - Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister
The issue of deliveries of Turkmen natural gas to Armenia remains on the agenda. The deputy head of the country's foreign policy department Shavarsh Kocharyan stated this during the parliamentary discussions of the draft of the Armenian state budget next year. He explained that in this case we mean swap gas supplies from Turkmenistan. This issue was discussed by the head of the government of Armenia Karen Karapetyan in October during his visit to Tehran. Under this scheme, the Armenian side pays the Turkmen side money or goods (depending on the agreement) for the gas that Turkmenistan will transfer to Iran on the Turkmen-Iranian border. And Iran, in turn, transmits similar volume of gas to the Armenian consumers on the Iranian-Armenian border. As explained by Kocharyan, such a scheme excludes the need for special transportation of natural gas from Turkmenistan to Armenia.
