Turkmenistan is increasing its presence on the world stage with the development of natural gas potential

― Turkmenistan is continuing to look at development of its resources and growing the presence on the global stage in terms of the natural gas development. I think that the current investment forum in Dubai was a really good showcase of this," Mark Fitzgerald, vice president of international assets, exploration and production at PETRONAS, said in an interview with ORIENT.
Fitzgerald was a speaker at the session on the environmental aspects of the development of hydrocarbon deposits. In an interview on the sidelines of the forum, he particularly stressed that the effective management of the rich resources with which Turkmenistan is endowed is designed for sustainable and long-term development.

― The course of Turkmenistan's leadership to modernize the oil and gas industry in compliance with global and public expectations, especially the UN's focus on emissions ruduction, is also in tune with PETRONAS' policy. We have been working in Turkmenistan since 1996. We have got 27 years of history in the country, and that is the history we are very proud of.
Over that time period, we have invested almost $ 11.5 billion in Turkmenistan, we have contributed close to $ 3 billion in the economic benefit to the country. We employ over 600 people, and we have seen good prospects for continuing cooperation, including in the field of the human dimension. For example, through some of our contributions, such as the education of 162 people in the university system in Malaysia, through some other contributions to the community that we have been part of.
I believe that the Dubai Forum has become an extremely useful platform for the development of a multilateral dialogue around the significant resource potential of Turkmenistan, which has yet to be fully revealed. The country is following the right path, relying on the expert participation of the international oil and gas community in the development of strategic decisions and long-term plans, including on the environmental track of industry growth.
PETRONAS's view is that we can continue to be a part of the global solution by developing low-carbon, low-emission sustainable natural gas and oil, in a way that provides growth to the world economies, but also allows us to meet our commitment to net-zero 2050 and reduce carbon emissions.
"I beleive that Turkmen Government is putting policies and is moving forward in the way that is fully inlined with these principles, and I think that is what is necessary to see the long-term development of the resources in country," Mark Fitzgerald summed up.
