Russia is ready to switch to a visa-free regime with Turkmenistan, if the country expresses such a desire. This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Alexander Blokhin in an interview with TASS.

"We are ready to liberalize the issue of visa regime, tourism, etc. to the extent that Turkmenistan is ready. <...> We have full readiness from liberalization to complete cancellation, as the Turkmen side decides," he said.

April 6 Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan, Ivan Volynkin, who will officially take office after the presentation of credentials.
