Erdogan announced Putin's participation in the ceremony of delivering nuclear fuel to Akkuyu

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will take part in the ceremony of delivery of nuclear fuel to the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which is scheduled for April 27, Anadolu agency reports.
With the delivery of fuel, the Akkuyu station, which is being built with the participation of Russia, will become a nuclear facility, and Turkey will become a country where there is nuclear energy. Akkuyu meets all modern international safety requirements in the nuclear power industry.
It is planned that after the commissioning of all four units, which will be equipped with Russian VVER-1200 reactors, Turkey's first nuclear power plant will generate about 35 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and cover up to 10% of Turkey's needs.
This project is the first in the global nuclear industry, which is implemented according to the "build — own — operate" model. Its cost is about $ 20 billion.
Construction of the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP began in April 2018, the second — in April 2020, the third — in March 2021, the fourth — in July 2022.
In an interview with TRT TV and radio company, the Turkish leader also said that Turkey intends to accelerate preparations for the construction of the country's second nuclear power plant. Thus, negotiations have already been held with China and South Korea on the implementation of this project, as a result of which appropriate steps will be taken.
