The book of the ex-employee of the US Embassy in Turkmenistan is nominated for two prestigious awards

The book by Ray Nayler, a former employee of the American Embassy in Turkmenistan, "A Mountain in the Sea" has reached the final of two prestigious awards — "Newbel" and "Ray Bradbury", Locus reports.
Both awards are given by the American Association of Science Fiction Writers for the best works in the style of fantasy. The science fiction works of the writer have repeatedly aroused great interest among American readers.
The plot of the book "The Mountain in the Sea" (2022) is based on the fact that the highly developed civilization of octopuses is leaping ahead of the degree of development of the human community. According to the plot, sea creatures keep a special "key" that helps them develop so rapidly.
Some illegal groups begin to "hunt" this species in order to get the secret of intellectual superiority, but scientists who are trying to establish contact with underwater inhabitants stand in their way. However, both those and other representatives of the human race will be very disappointed, because octopuses have completely different plans for the future.
Neiler's passion for exact and natural sciences, as well as semiotics — the science of sign systems - had a huge influence on his work. The cost of the book on various platforms is approximately $ 15, an electronic request for it has already been issued by more than 22 thousand users.
Ray Neiler moved from Canada to Turkmenistan in 2003. Here he became an employee of the Peace Corps, the humanitarian American agency at the US diplomatic mission, and also learned Russian perfectly. This allowed Ray to travel to other CIS countries, including Russia, a few years later.
