Intersectoral planning of adaptation to climate change discussed in Turkmenistan

The creation of a coordination mechanism for intersectoral planning of adaptation to climate change in Turkmenistan was discussed during a round table held by the United Nations Development Program in Turkmenistan jointly with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
At the meeting, an agreement was reached to expand the functions of the Working Group on the Implementation of the National Adaptation Process (NAP). From now on, it will coordinate the activities of stakeholders involved in the preparation of the national adaptation plan and the development of various adaptation strategies, monitor and evaluate the implementation of the NAP.
The members of the group will also develop a roadmap of actions for the effective implementation of the adaptation process, and a single financial mechanism will be created. The composition of the Working Group was also expanded to ensure the full participation of representatives of various sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan.
The event was organized within the framework of the joint project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and UNDP "Development of the national adaptation planning process in Turkmenistan". It is funded by the Green Climate Fund.
Turkmenistan seeks to strengthen its capacity for adaptation and resilience to climate change by integrating climate risks and adaptation measures into planning and budgeting processes through the development of a national adaptation process (NAP).
