The automatic interplanetary station JUICE of the European Space Agency has been successfully launched into orbit and is already conducting an independent flight to the largest planet of the Solar System — Jupiter, the press service of the operator Arianespace reports.

The main purpose of the station is to study the three moons of Jupiter — Ganymede, Europa and Callisto. Scientists claim that oceans of liquid water may be hiding under the ice cover of the moons of this planet. Confirmation of the theory will increase the probability of finding potential life.

The spacecraft will reach Europa and Callisto by 2031, and by 2034 it will enter the orbit of Jupiter at an altitude of 500 km. In total, the station will serve to study the planet and its satellites for about 2.5 years and by 2035 will complete its mission by crashing into the surface of Ganymede.
