Turkmenistan has been elected a member of the UNICEF Executive Board for 2024-2026


Turkmenistan was unanimously elected a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for 2024-2026 at the organizational session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This is reported by the website of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN.
Turkmenistan was previously a member of the UNICEF Executive Board in 2018-2020.
As a member of the governing body of the United Nations Children's Fund, which provides intergovernmental support and oversight, Turkmenistan will participate in the review of UNICEF activities and the approval of its policies, country programs and budgets. This is an opportunity for Turkmenistan to contribute to ensuring the well-being of children at the global level, to become an example for the world community in complying with its obligations regarding the rights of the child.
The Executive Board, whose activities are coordinated by the Bureau, consists of 36 members representing five regional groups of Member States in the UN. The Council meets three times a year.
To date, Turkmenistan is a member of 13 UN commissions, committees and councils. The country has also been elected Vice-President of the UN General Assembly seven times.
