A delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has arrived in Ashgabat to hold talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. On Monday, Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev met with Fedor Klimchuk, Deputy Director of the Policy Analysis and Public Relations Department of UNODC, and Igor Kondratiev, Deputy Head of the Section on Joint Financing and Partnerships.

According to the website of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the parties discussed the implementation of the national, regional and global UNODC programs to combat drug trafficking. The guests highly appreciated Turkmenistan's activities in this direction, and also considered further cooperation and a joint work plan for 2023.

The interlocutors noted the successful joint holding of the 55th session of the Subcommission on Drug Trafficking and Related Issues in the Near and Middle East in Ashgabat last November. The meeting participants also paid special attention to the results of the 66th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, held in Vienna in mid-March 2023.

During the meeting, the diplomats also considered the prospects for cooperation in the field of border strengthening and customs. These areas are the main ones in the partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN UPN.

In the context of cooperation in the field of combating human trafficking, UNODC offered to assist Turkmen experts in developing a new plan for 2023-2025, in connection with the completion of the current National Plan.
