Turkmen athletes won five medals at the "SAMBO Founders Cup"


Five medals — one gold and four bronze — were won by Turkmen athletes at the "Sambo Founders Cup" held in Moscow on March 24-27.
Babajan Ivadullayev, a native of Lebap region, brought the only gold medal to the national team of Turkmenistan in the weight category over 98 kg. In the final match, he defeated a sambo wrestler from Russia Oleg Kubanov.
The bronze medal winners were: representatives of combat sambo Sapar Dovletov (in the weight category up to 64 kg) and Begench Baltayev (up to 79 kg), and in combat sambo — Meylis Niyazmenliyev (up to 64 kg) and Mammetgurban Mammetgurbanov (up to 88 kg).
Athletes from Turkmenistan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Armenia, China, Tajikistan, etc. took part in the championship.
The tournament program included: sambo and combat sambo fights among men in the weight categories of 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg and over 98 kg, as well as among women in the weights of 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg and over 80 kg.
The "Sambo Founders Cup" is named after Anatoly Kharlampiev, Vasily Oshchepkov and Viktor Spiridonov, who are considered the founders of this sport.
