Turkmenistan, Russia and Kazakhstan may sign an agreement on the construction of a highway bypassing the Caspian Sea, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin told RIA Novosti.

"On May 18, we will hold the Kazan Forum, and we are definitely planning to discuss the construction of a highway bypassing the Caspian Sea there with colleagues from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, perhaps we will sign an agreement," the news agency quotes Khusnullin.

Earlier, the head of the Russian state-owned Avtodor company Vyacheslav Petushenko said that access to the Caspian Sea is of great importance given the reconfiguration of the country's logistics. This exit, in turn, can be provided by the Russian Federation due to the construction of the South-Eastern chord, which will work in conjunction with the Median route to China.

Plans for the implementation of a joint road project between Russia and Turkmenistan became known during the working trip of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Turkmenistan at the end of January 2023. Then it was reported about the possibility of building a highway along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea.
