The political season in China is open
The 1st session of the National People's Congress (NPC) of the 14th convocation has opened in Beijing, Xinhua reports. In the coming days, Chinese deputies will discuss socio-economic achievements and outline prospects for further comprehensive development of the country.
Traditionally, the agenda of the meeting includes discussion of the report of Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang on the work of the government and budget execution over the past year, reports on the work of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's Prosecutor's Office and the Supreme People's Court. Legislators will also adopt a budget for 2023.
In his speech, Li Keqiang noted the need for efficient use of resources to achieve technological progress in the main areas. In particular, the importance of digitalization of traditional industries, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises was emphasized.
According to the report of the Premier of the State Council, it is expected that this year China's contribution to global economic development will again exceed 30%, and GDP growth will be approximately 5%.
Touching upon the foreign policy topic, Li Keqiang stressed the importance of the peaceful course of development of international relations: "We must remain committed to an independent foreign policy of peace and peaceful development, strive for friendship and cooperation with other countries based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence."
During the meeting, parliamentarians will consider the draft reform of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.
Chinese President Xi Jinping, who may be re-elected for the next five-year term, said that qualitative development is the primary task of building a modern socialist country in all respects.
On March 4, the first session of the supreme advisory body of the People's Republic of China - the All-China Committee of the People's Political Consultative Council of China of the 14th convocation opened in the capital of the Celestial Empire. The session will continue until March 13.
